Wild Country Cam Rewiring Service

Review by Review

Ever wonder what to do with your old Friends with worn clings and broken wires? Send them back to Wild Country and pay to have the old bits replaced. Basically the cams and stem should last many, many years as long as they are not too badly abused, but the sling that you use to connect the cam to your karabiner will slowly wear and fade with use, and the wires that link the trigger to the cams will inevitably fray and snap. Whilst on a climbing trip last summer I managed to fashion a repair to a couple of broken wires with some finger tape and some very thin string, but it was the most frustrating cam on my rack, really difficult to place with its floppy string 'wires'.

If you send in your unit direct to Wild Country they will send you back a quotation around £10 (dependent on how bad a shape the unit is in). This will get you a new set of wires, a new sling (regardless of the state of the old sling) and postage and packing back to you just a few days after they receive your cheque. Cheap and quick it's an awful lot more cost efficient than buying new cams.

They obviously won't rewire cams that are not made by Wild Country, but presumably you will be able to send these back to the respective manufacturer.

The address to send them to is:

Wild Country, Meverill Rd, Tideswell, Nr Buxton, Derbyshire, SK 17 8PY

Don't forget to include a note in with the cam explaining what it is you want, along with your return address!
