Wednesday 31st October 2012The 2012 Original Mountain Marathon took place in the Howgills of northern England, a lesser known area settled between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks near Sedbergh and only 10 minutes from the M6.
Sedbergh School laid host to this year's event and the weekend saw a contrast of fine but cold conditions for Saturday's race and wet, windy and misty conditions for the Sunday. Competitors found that after the fine conditions on the first day their mountain navigation abilities were tested through Sunday.
I was there for the whole weekend to film the competitors on course and to speak to some of the top placing finishers. I was also interested in talking to two of the many people behind the event, Steve Willis and Jeff Harris who were this year's course planner and controller. So much organisation goes in to these events and the OMM has a committed, core team of organisation staff, marshalls and volunteers - some of whom have been supporting the event for over twenty five years - that I felt it was important to have a chat with them.
Full results can be found via the OMM website. Plus check out the OMM's 2013 events calendar, with races such as the OMM Lite planned it's going to be an exciting year for racing.
